Valentine’s Day Circle Game – Will You Be My Valentine?

February 7, 2021 By Sara Mullett 15 Comments

With small children Valentine’s Day is all about learning to appreciate friendship. The Will You Be My Valentine? Circle Game is a lovely way to encourage small children to value their friends.

Valentine's Day Song with a Circle Game

Valentine’s Day Circle Game

Will You By My Valentine?

Will you be my Valentine?

One, two, three,

If you want to find a friend,

Just choose me!

(sung to the same tune as All Around the Daffodils)

How To Play The Circle Game

  1. The children hold hands in a circle, and lift up their arms to make windows.
  2. One child then weaves in and out of the windows while everyone sings the song.
  3. At the end of each repetition of the song the child points to the person they are closest to, holds their hand, and then takes their new friend with  them through the windows together.
  4. Repeat in this way, with the newly chosen child each having a turn to lead the growing snake of friends through the windows, until finally everyone is chosen.
  5. The adult (parent or teacher) who is the last one left can make a ‘bridge’ against the wall. Then the children love to pass under this ‘bridge’ in a long line.

Thank you for so many fun and engaging songs! We have enjoyed them routinely at the start of homeschool. My grandson is now
in public Kindergarten, and I’m looking forward to revisiting your ideas and songs with his little brother! Respectfully, grandma Patti

This sounds great but I cannot picture how the movement is done- is there a video of children actually doing this?

I don’t have a video of this actual song, but the circle game movement is very similar to the one in ‘In & Out The Dusty Bluebells’ apart from the ‘tappety, tappity’bit. But hopefully this will give you the idea! – https://youtu.be/fadMI0Zo8ro
